Calculate total hours worked in a day by entering your start time, end time, and break duration.
A standard work day is 8 hours with a 30-minute to 1-hour unpaid break.
Use .5 for half hours (e.g., 8:30 AM = 8.5, 5:30 PM = 17.5).
Add up all break durations and enter the total as a single break time. For example, a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks should be entered as 60 minutes total in the break field.
Decimal hours (e.g., 7.5 hours) are commonly used for payroll calculations. Convert minutes to decimal by dividing by 60 (e.g., 7 hours 30 minutes = 7.5 hours). Most payroll systems use decimal format.
